Athletic training is practiced by athletic trainers, health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients.  Athletic training encompasses the prevention, assessment, and intervention with exercise and treatment of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.

The MATA continues to provide professional programs and educational opportunities for its members and stakeholders, and to be an athletic healthcare resource for the public within the state of Maine.
